A scar forms from the natural healing process that occurs in response to an incision placed during surgery.
Scar tissue goes through phases of healing and can often appear red or mildly elevated during this natural process.
Scars can be improved by topical products and scar massage.
Caring for your scar can help improve its appearance.
Patients with a higher risk of abnormal scarring include those with previous history of hypertrophic or keloid scars or patients with darker skin pigmentation.
In addition, incisions in higher tension areas or over parts of the body that engage in repetitive movement may result in widened or unsightly scars.
A drain is a tube that prevents body fluid from collecting at your surgical site.
The drainage end of the tubing is placed into your surgical site through an opening near your incision, and is held in place by a stitch.
The drain pulls this fluid (by suction) into a bulb.
You can then empty the bulb and measure the fluid inside.
Record the fluid amounts on a "Drain Log." Please note that immediately after your surgery, the color and consistency will be similar to blood.
This is normal.
As your surgical site heals over the next several days, the drainage will change colors.
When it comes to elective cosmetic surgery, patient safety is Dr. Adams #1 priority.
However, as with all surgical procedures, complications can occur, and most insurance companies do not cover medical expenses related to a complication.
As a cosmetic patient of Dr. Adams, your scheduled surgery includes CosmetAssure coverage.
CosmetAssure provides you with insurance in the unlikely event a complication occurs.
CosmetAssure is exclusively available to members of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS).
