Board-certified plastic surgeon David B. Reath, MD is renowned for his surgical skills. Practicing in Knoxville, Tennessee since 1986, his personal approach with patients is what truly sets him apart. The majority of my plastic surgery practice here in Knoxville is body contouring surgery, which is changing the shape of my patient's bodies. Inevitably this means dealing with fat.

We all have it. We all need it. Some have less than they want; most of us have more than we want. Frequently we get questions. As I continue to practice plastic surgery, I look for ways to improve the operations I have been doing for years to achieve better results. One such procedure is the breast lift (mastopexy), most often using breast implants (augmentation mastopexy).

Several aspects of how I do this have evolved, and presently I think I am.

If you are like most women considering breast surgery, it's likely that you have been thinking about this for most of your adult life.
As a teenager you may have spent hours anxiously obsessing over when your breasts would finally start to to develop.
Or perhaps it was just the opposite.
Maybe you started maturing before your friends and self-consciously wished your breasts would stop growing so fast.
Or maybe you were happy with your breasts before you had children and are now dismayed to see that your breasts have become unrecognizable after pregnancy and breast feeding.
Despite some Hollywood stereotypes, the majority of women we see in our Knoxville practice increase from one to two cup sizes to obtain the flattering figure they always wanted.
Some come to us after they have had children and lost their breast size after breast-feeding.
Others need to have a breast lift along with the enlargement.
You may not be surprised to learn that breast augmentation is our most popular plastic surgery procedure.
Actually, over 220 women from Johnson City, Cookeville, Cleveland, and beyond chose to use Dr. Reath for their breast augmentation surgery in Knoxville, TN last year.
How do I know if I should have my implants placed over or under the muscle?
Good question.
We go into great detail addressing this issue in our "Girlfriend's Guide to Breast Augmentation", but here's the abbreviated version.
Choose the submuscular (under the muscle) placement if you have saline implants, a small amount of natural breast tissue or a strong family history of breast cancer.
Choose the subglandular (over the muscle) placement if you want silicone implants, have a large amount of natural tissue with saline implants or require a breast lift.
